It is heard that when online gambling is legalized, Facebook will be in the $100 billion mark of generated revenue. Google has $40 billion worth of revenue and Facebook made $4 billion worth of income last year.
Facebook is already the platform to many social gaming sites. And with the legalization of online gambling, this would mean more money.
Facebook is already receiving a percentage of the virtual funds being used via companies like Zynga. Zynga is the largest gaming network on the web with about $1 billion of revenue per year. So if Facebook charges 30%, it means they are getting about 400 million of revenue from Zynga. And that is through Zynga alone. So one can easily work out the volume of income Facebook must be generating through such gaming sites which use its platform. Facebook also gets returns from advertisements on its site.
For Facebook to reach $100 billion in revenue, it will mean that there will need to be some serious gambling being done on its platform. But this is not a farfetched goal to reach considering the amount of people who gamble and that too on such a popular social network like Facebook.
Last year, Facebook said that it would look into working with UK online casinos, as internet betting is already legal in the UK. But they will strike it even bigger should online gambling be legalized in the US.
US States and gaming related companies want online gambling to be legalized, which would be a great plus to the country in terms of revenue and taxation.
With the online gambling world entering a new era, Facebook is due to make it big and even huge.
